PURPOSE: To make it possible to separate and quantitatively analyze an objective ion with good accuracy, by providing a background removing apparatus and a water dip removing apparatus for preventing the lowering in the conductivity of an eluted liquid, both of which are integrally constituted of the same material, next to the separation column of an ion chromatograph.
CONSTITUTION: The eluted liquid from the separation column 6 of an ion chromatograph is passed through a suppressor 7 wherein a background removing apparatus part A for removing an ion seed to be measured, for example, a cation Na+ forming a pair with an anion and a water dip removing apparatus B for preventing the lowering in conductivity due to the moisture in the eluted liquid by supplying carbonic acid to the eluted liquid issued from said part A are integrally constituted as a double pipe structure having an inner chamber 7b and an outer chamber 7c partitioned, for example, by an ion exchange membrane tube 7a. In the next step, said eluted liquid is passed through an ion conductivity detector 8. By this mechanism, the turbulence in the peak shape of a separated ion caused by using a large number of joints for connecting the apparatuses A, B as is conventional is eliminated and the separation and quantitative analysis are enabled with good accuracy.
