PURPOSE: To measure the shape of a plane to be measured even under bad environmental conditions, by obtaining the signal difference of a picture from two lines to be measured on a plane to be measured through irradiation of light and processing the signal.
CONSTITUTION: A light from a light source 22 like a laser light source is irradiated on a line to be measured 10 on a furnace charge plane 30 and the line 10 is picked up with a TV camera 28. The picture is processed at a signal processor 16 and stored in a scanning converter 32. Similarly, a scanning picture signal of a line 12 to be measured apart from the line 10 by a specific position is given to the scanning converter 32 via a signal processing circuit 20. An output of the circuit 20 is subtracted from the stored signal at a position detection circuit 34, two-dimensional coordinates (H,V) of a picture where the background image of the line 10 is eliminated are obtained, and converted into three-dimensional coordinates of the charge 30 with a microcomputer 36, allowing to obtain the shape in excellent way.
