Abstract:

PURPOSE: Car exterior parts excellent in appearance and resistance to abrasion, scratch and oil, obtained by molding a pigment-containing polyolefin into a car exterior part, plasma-treating this parts and coating it with a transparent clean lacquer.

CONSTITUTION: A polyolefin such as polyethylene or an ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer is mixed with a pigment such as an inorganic or organic pigment, a filler, and other necessary additives, and the mixture is molded into a car exterior part. The obtained part is placed in a low-temperature plasma generated by glow discharge of a gas such as oxygen, nitrogen, or argon at a diminished pressure of as low as about 0.1W10 Torr, whereby the surface of the part is physically or chemically modified with low-temperature plasma. The surface of the plasma-treated molded part is coated with a transparent clear lacquer such as acryl or urethane coating to obtain the purpose car exterior part.
