Title:
INORGANIC FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5913646
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat resistant alkali-proof inorg. fiber having superior heat resistance and causing hardly shrinkage at high temp. by adding zirconia to silica as a base.

CONSTITUTION: This inorg. fiber contains 70W90mol% silica and at least 4mol% zirconia. By adding ≥4mol% zicronia, the heat resistance of the fiber is considerably improved, and electric conductivity is provided to silica in a molten state, so melting in an electric furnace can be made easy. The resulting ceramic fiber has more distinctly improved heat resistance than a conventional alumina- silica ceramic fiber of a ceramic fiber made of a composition consisting of 40W 60wt% silica, 20W45wt% alumina and 3.5W20wt% zirconia. Calcia, magnesia, titania and alumina may be used combinedly as the 3rd components while maintaining said contents of silica and zirconia.
