Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce vinyl chloride polymer particles excellent in plasticizability, by polymerizing vinyl chloride in the presence of a plasticizer in an organic solvent which does not dissolve vinyl chloride polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A reaction vessel is charged with an organic solvent which does not dissolve vinyl chloride polymer (e.g., methyl alcohol, pentane, or cyclohexane), a plasticizer (e.g., butyl phthalate, or trioctyl phosphate), a catalyst (e.g., lauroyl peroxide), and vinyl chloride (which may contain below about 50wt% other monomers such as ethylene or vinyl acetate), and the mixture is suspension-polymerized in a usual manner.
