PURPOSE: To perform the removal of grinding chips surely in a short time, by installing a chip remover member being attachable or detachable to or from a chuck and driving device capable of sliding the said member on the chuck, in case of an automatic chuck cleaner for a surface grinding machine.

CONSTITUTION: In case of a surface grinding machine which attracts and locks a work with a magnetic chuck 3, a column 4 is locked to both ends of the chuck 3, and a fixed table 5 is installed in position over columns 4 and 4. A setting block 7 comprising a motor 6 inside is locked onto the fixed table 5, while a rockable rotator 12 is installed on this block 7 around a rotary shaft 13, and the rotator 12 is reciprocated by rotation of the motor 6 via a crank 9. An arm 15 is fulcrumed on the tip of a horizontal arm 14 of the rotator 12 and this arm 15 is rotated in a vertical direction by operation of a cylinder 17. And, a chip remover member 21 consisting of installing a slide seal 24 in a frame 23 is attached to the tip of the arm 15, and the said member 21 is made into a parallel motion with action of an auxiliary link 33 or the like.
