PURPOSE: To provide a carcinostatic agent having proliferation suppressing effect to various tumors, by extracting dragon's blood with water or an organic solvent miscible freely with water, and using the extract as an active component.
CONSTITUTION: Dragon's blood (rosin obtained from the fruit of Daemonorop draco) is extracted with water and/or an organic solvent miscible freely with water (e.g. methanol), and the extract is used as an active component of a carcinostatic agent. Dragon's blood contains a red pigment dracorubin (C32H24O5), and has been used as a stegnotic for antidiarrhetic or hemostatic use for a long time, and it has been newly found that the substance exhibits excellent effect to suppress the proliferation of experimental tumor, e.g. sarcoma 180 ascites tumor, Lewis lung carcinoma and ascites Yoshida sarcoma. It can be administered orally or parenterally. Dose: 5W150mg/day for oral administration and 0.1W30mg/day for parenteral administration.
