PURPOSE: A coating composition excellent in scratch resistance, surface hardness, flexibility, rate of dry film formation and film surface smoothness, comprising a specified urethane/(meth)acrylate prepolymer, a reactive monomer, an organic solvent and a photopolymerization initiator.
CONSTITUTION: A composition comprising (A) a urethane/(meth)acrylate prepolymer obtained by reacting a polyisocyanate with a mixture of compounds (n= 1, 2, 3, and 4) of the formula wherein n is 1, 2, 3, or 4, (B) a reactive monomer (one having no hydroxyl group), (C) an organic solvent of an atmospheric b.p. of 50W150°C and, (D) a photopolymerization initiator having absorption wavelengths in the ultraviolet region. Furthermore, it is also possible to replace the above prepolymer with a high-molecular urethane/(meth)acrylate prepolymer prepared by reacting the above polyisocyanate with the above mixture and a compound having at least one hydroxyl group and at least one unsaturated group or/and a compound having two hydroxyl groups and at least one unsaturated group.
