PURPOSE: The titled resin composition having good drying characteristics, giving a coating film with excellent appearance and build, substantially free of corroding the surface of material to be coated, made by incorporating a cellulose derivative, an ultraviolet absorber, etc. into a specified vinyl copolymer modified with a fatty acid of a drying oil.
CONSTITUTION: 5W60pts.wt. fatty acid of a drying oil having an iodine value of 100W200 (e.g. cottonseed oil) is added to 100pts.wt. copolymer of 5W25wt% epoxy-group-containing vinyl monomer (e.g. a glycidyl acrylate), 0W60wt% aromatic vinyl monomer, 0W10wt% unsaturated alkyd resin, and 5W95wt% other vinyl monomers. Then 60W100wt% modified vinyl copolymer obtained, 0W40wt% cellulose derivative (e.g. cellulose acetate), 0W10wt% ultraviolet absorber (e.g. benzophenone) and, if necessary, a drier, a polyisocyanate, and an amino resin are compounded.
