PURPOSE: To suppress effectively a low frequency chrominance signal included in a reproduced luminance signal by applying a correcting signal having a frequency corresponding to a carrier component or a harmonic component of a low frequency chrominance carrier signal to the reproduced luminance signal while inverting the phase from that of the low frequency chrominance carrier signal.

CONSTITUTION: A mixture signal of an FM luminance signal YF and low frequency chrominance carrier signals Ca, Cb obtained from rotary magnetic heads 1, 2 are amplified and fed to a changeover circuit 5 and the FM luminance signal and the low frequency chrominance signal are extracted by a high pass filter 6 and a low pass filter 12, respectively. Unnecessary luminance signal components C'a, C'b are included in the FM luminance signal YF in addition to the reproduced luminance signal Y. In order to eliminate the unnecessary luminance signals, the low frequency chrominance signal obtained from the low pass filter 12 is applied to correction signal generating circuits 28, 29, where a correction signal having the 2nd harmonic component is formed. The phase of the correction signals Cca, Ccb is applied to an adder 10 while inverting the phase as that of the low frequency chrominance carrier signal thereby eliminating the unnecessary luminance components C'a, C'b.
