Title:
HEAT TREATMENT OF ALUMINUM ALLOY CASTING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5925961
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the strength of an Al alloy casting by a short-time heat treatment and to prevent the part of the casting welded to a sleeve by simultaneous casting from being stripped from the sleeve, by casting the Al alloy casting, knocking out the mold immediately after solidifying the casting, water- cooling the casting at once, and tempering it.

CONSTITUTION: A cylinder block for an internal combustion engine or other casting made of an Al alloy is cast, and immediately after solidifying the casting, the mold is released. The casting is hardened at once by putting in water, and it is tempered to improve the hardness and strength. Even when the cylinder block is cast integral with a sleeve, the strength of the block can be sufficiently improved by this method without causing the stripping of the sleeve.
