PURPOSE: To obtain an artificial ground for testing soil property readily and to improve working efficiency of the soil test, by accommodating a macromolecular material, whose viscosity is changed by temperature in a tank, and providing a temperature regulating device and a compressing press at the lower part of the tank.
CONSTITUTION: The side walls of a tank comprise transparent plates made of acrylic material or the like. Slits are cut in the plates in longitudinal and lateral directions at a constant interval. A macromolecular material such as polyvinyl acetic acid, whose viscosity is changed by temperature, is accommodated in the tank. The temperature of the macromolecular material is regulated by a temperature regulating device 2. A pressure corresponding to a desired soil pressure is applied through a hydraulic cylinder 5 of a press device 3 and a pressure plate 4. A consolidating rod 7 is compressed into a hole, which is provided in the side wall of the tank by a hydraulic cylinder 8, and consolidation resistance is measured. Continuous photographs are taken through the transparent side walls, and the behavior of the ground in the tank can be observed. Thus the artificial ground can be readily obtained and the efficiency of the soil test is improved.
