PURPOSE: To make it possible to prevent pitch from being fused together during storage at ordinary temperature by cooling and solidifying molten pitch in water in a specified temperature range.

CONSTITUTION: Molten pitch is kept in water at a temperature above the glass transition point of the pitch and at most 20°C for at least 30min, thus preventing the pitch from being fused together. This makes it possible to realize smooth operations of carrying, loading and unloading, etc., and can prevent the occurrence of dust due to crushing of fused mass to thereby contribute to an improvement in working environment.
