PURPOSE: To produce easily a character ring having durability and a sharp printing effect by inscribing many radial notches to a large cylinder die for molding and working the outside diametral circumferential surface of the character ring to be used for a printer so that the character ring can be smoothly disengaged from a die.

CONSTITUTION: A die for forming a character ring consists of an immobile die 17 molding one side face of a character ring W, a movable die 21 facing said die, a small cylinder die 22 and a large cylinder die 23 molding the inside diameteral circumferential surface 13 and outside diameteral circumferential surface 11 of the ring W, many character matrix die M, an oblique hole 36, an angular pin 37 inserted therein and a means for displacing the die 21. The heads of said matrix die M are guided to the many radial notches inscribed to the die 23 and character matrices are inscribed on the surfaces thereof. Said matrices are radially disposed.
