Title:
REFINING DEVICE FOR MOLTEN STEEL IN LADLE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS58189316
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a titled device which stabilizes arc heating and stirring of molten steel and improves the efficiency of heating and refining, by the constitution wherein an inert gas is blown into molten steel from gas blow-out ports provided in the forward end part of a cover of a graphite electrode immersed in the molten steel.

CONSTITUTION: A graphite electrode 3 is immersed into the molten steel 2 in a ladle 1, a cover for an immersion pipe 11 of a ceramic insulation material is provided around the electrode 3, an inert gas is introduced through a pipe 9 into the pipe 11 and while said gas is blown out into the steel 2 from the inert gas blow-out ports 14 provided in the forward end part of the pipe 11, an arc 17 is generated between the forward end of the electrode 3 and the steel 2. The melt surface in the pipe 11 is thus kept constant and the stable arc 17 is obtained, so that steel 2 is heated efficiently and stably. The molten steel 2 is stirred by the blowing of the inert gas, whereby the efficiency of refining is improved and the floating of nonmetallic inclusions is accelerated.
