PURPOSE: To provide the titled printer capable of obtaining an accurate sharp transfer image, constituted by such a mechanism that tension force is applied to a thermal transfer medium to press recording paper by the recording paper contact surface part of a platen roller and the pressed place is irradiated with laser beam.

CONSTITUTION: Support rollers 2, 3 are respectively arranged to the upstream side and the downstream side in a paper sending direction with respect to the recording paper contact surface part (a) of a platen roller 1. Recording paper A and a sheet like thermal transfer medium B are held between the platen roller 1 and both support rollers 2, 3 in a superimposed state and the rotary peripheral speed of the roller 3 is made faster than that of the roller 2. The support surface parts 2a, 3a of the transfer sheet B in both support rollers 2, 3 are brough near to the central side of the platen roller 1 from the contact surface part (a). The pressed part is heated by laser beam from a laser irradiator 9 at an irradiation position P in such a state that the transfer sheet B is pressed to the recording paper A.
