PURPOSE: To make it possible to prevent the transitional droppage of a car engine output power by retarding the start of exhaust gas reflux or increase in quantity at the time of acceleration from low load later than at the time of acceleration from high load.
CONSTITUTION: A control device G detects the load conditions just beforce acceleration based on the signals from an accleration detecting device E, which detects the acceleration of an engine 1, and from a load detecting device F, which detects the load. And, when the load is low, it controls so that an exhaust gas reflux control valve D will be opened later than when the load is high. At the time of acceleration from the low load conditions, a throttle valve H is opened, and consequently the exhaust gas is refluxed with an increase in the air flow taken into a combustion chamber, preventing a transitional great increase in the ratio of refluxed exhaust gas to intake air just after acceleration. In this way, without causing any transitional droppage of the engine output power, a regular drive can be smoothly shifted to an accelerated drive with no response delay.
