Abstract:

PURPOSE: The polymerization of ethylene or the like is carried out in the presence of a catalyst composed of a solution containing a specific titanium compound and an organoaluminum compound at high temperature and high pressure to achieve the production of homogeneous polyethylene polymer in high yield per unit amount of the catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: The polymerization of ethylene or a mixture thereof with an α- olefin of 3 or more carbon atoms is carried out at a temperature over 125°C and a pressure of 200kg/cm2 in the presence of a catalyst composed of (A) a titanium-containing solution obtained by bringing a magnesium compound of Xn1Mg(OR1)2-n (X1 is halogen; R1 is 1W20C alkyl, phenyl; 0<n<2) into contact with a hydroxy compound of R2OH (R2 is 3W20C alkyl, 5W7C cycloalkyl, phenyl) and a titanium compound of (R3O)mTiX4-m2 (R3 is 1W20C alkyl; X2 is halogen; m=0W4) in an inert hydrocarbon solvent and of (B) an organoaluminum compound of Rn4AlX3-n (R4 is 1W8C alkyl, phenyl, 7W10C aralkyl; n=1W3).
