PURPOSE: To manufacture a high density carbonaceous substance of high quality with high carbonization efficiency by adding a halogenated carbon compound as a carbonization accelerator before carbonizing a synthetic resin or a bituminous substance by heating.
CONSTITUTION: Dichloromethane, dichloroethane, tetrafluoroethane, carbon tetrachloride or the like as a carbonization accelerator is added to a synthetic resin such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl acetate or a bituminous substance such as an extract from cracked coal, tar, pitch or asphalt. The amount of the halogenated carbon compound is 100W150%. They are heated to 180W500°C under 10W250kg/cm2 pressure. By the heating the synthetic resin or the bituminous substance is carbonized while generating gas consisting essentially of hydrogen chloride. A high density carbonaceous substance of high quality is obtd.
