Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the titled molding material which is suitable for use as a molding material for friction materials such as brake, clutch, etc., does not cause environmental pollution, and has excellent resistance to impact and wear, etc., by mixing carbon fiber as a filler with a phenolic resin.

CONSTITUTION: Carbon fiber as a filler and, if necessary, other additives such as a curing catalyst such as hexamethylenetetramine or zinc stearate, a stabilizer, etc. are blended with a phenolic resin to obtain the desired phenolic molding material. The molding material is molded into a rope at a high temp. to form a rope-shaped prepreg. This prepreg is coiled into a spiral having a required size, put between molds, and subjected to hot press molding to obtain a disc-shaped friction material.
