PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of over-steering as well as to permit a handle to be lightly returned by forming each one of a main driving gear and a driven gear into an elliptic shape, and thereby arranging them in such a way that the short diameter position of the main driving gear stays in mesh with the long diameter position of the driven gear when a vehicle is running straight ahead.
CONSTITUTION: A device is provided with a main driving gear 11 rotated by a steering wheel and a driven gear 13 which rotates an arm 14 so as to steer paired right and left wheels. In this case, the main driving gear 11 and the driven gear 13, each of which is formed into an elliptic shape, are brought into contact with each other at all times while they are arranged in such a way that the short diameter position of the main driving gear stays in mesh with the long diameter position of the driven gear when a vehicle is running straight ahead. When the steering wheel is rotated, the driven gear 13 is rotated by the main driving gear 11, the arm 14 is then rotated by the driven gear 13, so that paired right and left wheels are thereby steered. As the wheels are steered large in angle, the main driving gear 11 is meshed with the driven gear 13 in such a way that the short diameter position of the main driving gear 11 is shifted to the long diameter position, so that the reduction ratio of the main driving gear 11 to the driven gear 13 is thereby gradually made small.
