Title:
METHOD FOR REFINING POLYPHNYLENE SULFIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5915430
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the content of electrolytes in a short time, by heating polyphenylene sulfide contg. the electrolytes in the presence of a polyoxyalkylene compd. in an org. amide solvent.

CONSTITUTION: 1W20pts.wt. org. amide solvent such as N-methylpyrrolidone, 0.01W30wt% [based on the amount of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)] polyoxyalkylene compd. such as polyoxyethylene glycol and, if necessary, 0.05W4mol (per 100g of PPS) of an alkali metal salt of an org. acid, such as sodium acetate, are added to one pt.wt. PPS having an MI of 10,000g/10min or below and an intrinsic viscosity of 0.05 or above and contg. at least 70mol% of a repeating unit of the formula and 0.1wt or more inorg. electrolyte as an impurity. The mixture is heated under stirring at 150W300°C for 0.1W10hr. PPS is recovered by filtration, washed with hot water several times and dried.
