PURPOSE: To increase printed density without increasing the load on the side of a printing head and enable to easily form a plurality of copies, by driving a platen to rotate at the time of a printing action.

CONSTITUTION: An impact-type printing head 3 (wire system, type ball system or the like) is fitted on a carriage 2 slidably fitted to guide shafts 1, 1, and a rigid rubber made cylindrical platen 4 driven to rotate at the time of printing is provided in front of the head 3 (numeral 5 denotes a recording paper, and numeral 6 denotes an ink ribbon). When a driving current is impressed on the head 3, a printing element (not shown) strongly pressed the ink ribbon 6 and the recording paper 4 against the platen 4, thereby printing on the paper 5, and simultaneously, the platen 4 is rotated in the direction of the arrow, whereby the paper 5 and the ribbon 6 are rubbed against the printing element, resulting in an increase in the printed density.
