PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy, efficiency, and responsiveness in a shape control by decreasing the elongation difference in the width direction of a rolling material within a control range of a selected pressing pattern basing on the detecting value of a shape of rolling material after rolling.
CONSTITUTION: A shape of a rolling material 4 rolled by a rolling mill, having a mechanism 18 for horizontally pressing work rolls 1, 2 by plural segmental rolls 7 and a mechanism 19 for vertically pressing them by said rolls 7, is detected by a shape detector 10. Further, plural pressing patterns of the rolls 7 are previously set, and when a detected shape of the material 4 is in the control limits of previously selected pressing patterns, a pressing pattern of flat region is selected. Moreover, the whole pressing force ST and vertical bending force F0 of the rolls 7 are controlled. Thus the elongation difference in the sheet-width direction of material 4 is decreased.
