PURPOSE: To enable to select the gradation curve of a scanner automatically by classifying the characteristics of an entered original by indicating with material values.
CONSTITUTION: When a color network separation film is made using a scanner from an entered original, the digital value, which is obtained by sample-measuring the density of the entered original, is counted in the order of size. The density value of the order number which is decided beforehand is obtained. Concerning the preselected plural originals, the each density value of the obtained order number, the related data with the gradation curve which is optimum for the original having the density value, and the density value of the order number of the entered original which is obtained beforehand are collated, and the optimum gradation curve is selected.
