PURPOSE: To enhance coloring performance in forming a color photographic image on the basis of the subtractive color process by introducing a specified diffusion resisting group at any combining position of a color photosensitive material contg. a coupler except the coupling position.
CONSTITUTION: A diffusion resisting group to be combined to any position except a coupling position is represented by formula I in which W is an integer of 2W6 and V is 1 or 2, R is optionally substd. straight, cyclic, or branched alkyl. Useful ones of said couplers are represented by formulae II and III in which A is a coupling group, and X is an org. residue combining with the coupler at the coupling position, and its desirable C number is 6W40. As a result, photographic characteristics, especially, coloring performance can be enhanced.
