PURPOSE: To provide a recording material showning sufficient color forming density and improved in storage stability after preparation and with the elaspse of time, by using hydroxybenzoic ester having an alkoxy group to the 2-position thereof as an electron acceptive compound along with an electron donating leuco dye.
CONSTITUTION: In a recording material using an electron donating leuco dye (e.g., 2-anilino-3-methyl-6-diethylaminofluorane, 2-anilino-3-chloro-6-diethylaminofluorane) and an electron acceptive compound, as said electron acceptive compound, hydroxybenzoic ester having an alkoxy group at the 2-position thereof {pref., furturyl 2-methoxy-4-hydroxy-6-methylbenzoate represented by formula [wherein R1 is alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl, R2 is H, halogen, alkoxy, alkyl or alkenyl and R3 is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl(oxyalkyl)]} is used.
