PURPOSE: To remove jamming paper easily in safety by supporting a separating pawl turnably within a specified range to some part of a heat insulation cover which is supported turnably while its maximum rotation range is limited, and energizing the pawl in such a direction that it contacts a heat roller.

CONSTITUTION: If recording paper jams between the front edge 9a of the separating pawl 9 and the peripheral surface of the heat roller 6, a unit 45 is drawn out and the heat insulation cover 22 is lifted after the cover 49 of an inverting device 30 to turn both movable parts 24b and 23b. Consequently, the separating pawl 9 supported by the movable part 23b also turns and its front edge 9a leaves the heat roller 6 to remove the jamming paper easily. In this case, the turning ranges of both movable parts are limited by allowing the projection 63 of the movable part 23b to abut on a stopper 52, preventing the danger of burn, etc. Further, the turning range of the separating pawl 9 is limited by allowing the projection part 9b of the separating pawl to abut on a stopper 65 to prevent trouble such over turning. Thus, the removal of jamming paper is performed easily in safety.
