PURPOSE: To improve sorting precision and feed bodies of different size to be sorted from the same sorting gate by sorting spherical or lumped object bodies securely and smoothly regardless of their conveyance attitude.
CONSTITUTION: An industrial TV camera 2 arranged above a conveying mechanism 1 is operated with the synchronizing signal from an image pickup driving circuit 4 to pickup images of conveyed bodies to be sorted, one by one. A control circuit 9, on the other hand, detects the conveyance-directional length of an object body by a length detecting means 91 from the image pickup signal DVS stored in a memory 6. A gate driving control means 93 outputs driving control signals GS1 and GS2 to gate driving circuits 8a and 8b by a gate driving control means 93 according to the dicision result and a gate width control means 94 controls gate opening/closure width according to the detected length of the length detecting means 91.
