PURPOSE: To rearrange rapidly work rolls and to improve the reliability of a rolling mill by providing a shifting device equipped with a fine pull back gadget to a driving spindle connected to a work roll.

CONSTITUTION: A power transmitting joint to a work roll is formed with an intermediate shaft 2' and outer cylinders 8, 12, and the outer cylinder 12 is fitted to a driving machine 3 to compose a driving system. A bearing 9 for supporting rotatably the shaft 2' and a bearing box 10 are mounted on supporting frames 11 through pins 13. The bearing box 10 is shifted by in the axial direction cylinders 14. A link mechanism consisting of arms 18, 20 and a connecting rod 19, is connected to eccentric pins 17 used for supporting the frames 11 to compose a fine pull back gadget which is actuated by a cylinder 16. The driving system is avoided being directly hit by the thrust of a rolling mill with the aid of this gadget, that reduces a damage of the system and extends its service life.
