PURPOSE: To obtain the titled carrier having superior image sharpness and long life by heat-treating a ferrite obtained by substituting a metal of a hexagonal ferrite represented by MeFe12O19 (Me being Ba, Pb, or Sr) for a monovalent or higher valent metal.
CONSTITUTION: The hexagonal ferrite represented by MeFe12O19 (Me being Ba, Pb, or Sr) the metal of which is substd. for a monovalent or higher valent metal, the ferrite of Ba2Me2Fe24O42 or Ba2Me2Fe28O48 a part of Ba and/or Me of which is sustd. for a monovalent or higher valent metal is obtained by weighing a proper amt. of materials and mixed. The powder mixture is calcined, pulverized, granulated, burned at 1,100W1,400°C, and finally heat-treated at about 700°C for about 2hr in an atm. of N2 to obtain the intended electrophotographic ferrite carrier having 102W1013Ω-cm resistivity, ≥10emu/g saturation magnetization, and ≥10μ magnetic permeability.
