Title:
METHOD FOR REDUCING BILLET WIDTH IN CONTINUOUS CASTING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS619956
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce smoothly the width of a billet without generating an air gap by moving the movable short sides of a casting mold toward the center of the mold and controlling the moving speed of the bottom end from the meniscus point thereof, the extent of the movement of the bottom end and the drawing speed of the billet.

CONSTITUTION: An optional moving speed is given to the menicus point of the molten metal on the short sides of the casting mold of a continuous casting machine forming the four sides of two sheets of long-side mold plates facing each other and two sheets of short side mold plates held in place between these plates movably so as to face each other and further the moving speed of the short sides in controlled from the extent of the movement of thereof, the extent of the movement at the bottom dead point of the short sides and the drawing speed of the billet a in method for reducing the billet width by moving said short sides toward the center of the mold during continuous casting with the above-mentioned mold. The deformation of the billet is thus minimized without the generation of the air gap at the bottom end on the short sides according to the movement of the short sides and the billet width is easily and smoothly reduced. The billet having high quality is thus obtd.
