PURPOSE: To improve efficiency of transferring operation in an apparatus for transferring objects between a storing shelf and a crane, by adjusting the position of the apparatus by means of a movable supporting arm provided on an elevator frame and a receiving member on the shelf, and by transferring the object by means of a gripping arm and a conveyor.

CONSTITUTION: A stacker crane is moved to the front of a predetermined shelf and an elevator is moved to adjust its position to the height of a predetermined section of the shelf. Then a supporting arm 42 is put forward to the shelf 2 by actions of a cylinder 45, a telescopic rod 43 and a lever 44. Then the elevator is lowered so that the supporting arm 42 is supported by a receiving member 17 to automatically align a guide rail 5 with a frame 36. Under this condition, a conveyor frame not shown in the drawing is raised to adjust the height of a conveyor chain for sending a pallet 7 into the shelf 2. Then transferring operation is performed by means of a gripping arm not shown in the drawing. By this constitution, efficiency of transferring operation can be improved.
