PURPOSE: To easily exchange rolls without laying rails used for exchanging rolls to the inside of a mill, by pushing out the used rolls to be exchanged by carried- in new rolls on rails used for carrying in and out the rolls provided in a straight line to put housings between them.
CONSTITUTION: Chocks 4 and 4a for a work rolls 2 of a multi-roll mill are equipped with wheel 5 and 5a. In exchanging the roll 2, the roll 2 is descended after being raised from the working position of a material 1 to be rolled, and when it reaches the exchanging position, the wheels 5 and 5a are mounted on carrying-out rails 6 freely movably in the direction of roll axis. On the other hand, a new work roll 2a of which chocks 8 and 8a are equipped with wheels 9 and 9a is mounted on carrying-out rails 6a in the same manner as that of the roll 2 freely movably toward the exchanging position. The chocks 8 and 4a are connected by fitting the projections and recesses of their opposing surfaces, and the roll 2a is pushed to the exchanging position in the inside of a housing 7 to simultaneously push out the roll 2 from the exchanging position. When the roll 2a takes the exchanging position, the connection is released and the roll 2 is carried out. A work roll 3 is exchanged almost in the same manner.
