PURPOSE: To make a technique of centerless grinding performable as well as to improve machining efficiency so sharply, by letting plural work support blades move up and down in a relative manner according to a diametral decrease in every part of a work by a stepped grinding wheel, while constituting the work so as to form it into stepped shaft from a round bar.
CONSTITUTION: In a method forming a work W into a stepped shaft from a round bar by means of a centerless grinder, three work support blades 17AW17C are solidly or separately feed-controlled in vertical directions by a servomotor 18 through a feed drive device 19. Hereat, a material of the work W consists of a round bar of d0 in diameter, and when this bar is formed into a large diametral part of d2 in finishing diameter of its central part while both end parts into a small diametral part of d1 and d3 (but d1>d3) in finishing diameter, a grinding wheel 11 and a regulating wheel 13 both are being formed in stepped form commensurate to a radial differential of the finishing diameter of the work W so that a workpiece can be formed into a stepped shaft, thus machining efficiency is improvable.
