PURPOSE: To increase the track switching time of a recording head and to reduce the driving force for switching of the recording head, by providing a period for integer times of revolutions of a disk between the end of recording of the 1st field and the recording of the 2nd field.
CONSTITUTION: The video signal of the 1st field is read out of an image pickup element 3 and recorded on the n-th track of a magnetic sheet. Then the reading of the element 3 is inhibited for a period during which a disk 11 revolves N times. Meanwhile the recording track of a recording head 10 is slowly shifted. Then the video signal of the 2nd field is read out of the element 3 and recorded on the (n+1)-th track of the disk 11. Thus it is possible to miniaturize a mechanism part for a shift of the head position. Thus, a compact and light-weight structure of a picture recorder is realized with excellent portability and operability.
