Abstract:

PURPOSE: To measure a toe angle at a high accuracy by removing a lateral oscillation of a rim flange desired to measure a toe angle of a wheel and effect of a balancer weight mounted on the rim flange.

CONSTITUTION: Wheels 14a and 14d are clamped by wheel clamp means 36a and 36b arranged on a support shaft 28 to allow a vehicle to travel straight and then, a toe angle measuring means 68 having four stroke sensors 84a-84d is made to abut a rim flange 17a to measure a distance from a reference surface by the stroke sensors 84a-84d. In this case, measured values of the stroke sensors 84a-84d. failing to interfer with a balancer weight are used. Then, the wheels 14a-14d are rotated by 360/n each to perform measurements (n) times and a toe angle is calculated at a high accuracy from the results of the measurement.
