Title:
MOLTEN CARBONATE TYPE FUEL CELL CATHODE AND ITS MELTING SUPPRESSING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3228377
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To suppress a cathode material from melting in an electrolyte in a molten carbonate type fuel cell.
CONSTITUTION: As a cathode material for a melting carbonate type fuel cell, a substance containing a solid solution, obtained by heat treating a nickel material consisting of nickel or nickel oxide and a cobalt material consisting of cobalt or cobalt oxide, is used. In an obtained cathode, CoO is dispersed in Ni0 in a condition of solid solution. Since this CoO reacts with carbonate, which is an electrolyte, to produce LiCoO2 refractory in this carbonate, the NiO can be coated with a thin film of LiCoO2 refractory in the carbonate which is the electrolyte, and a melting phenomenon of the cathode can be suppressed. In this way, a life of the fuel cell can be extended.
