The token counter has a function for automatically detecting and rejecting the different kinds of tokens. In a housing 1, there are horizontally arranged a turntable 2, driving motor 3, and token carrying path 4. In a carrying path guide 5b side of the token carrying path 4, a reject-storage 6 is arranged which stores the different kinds of tokens having no regular patterns thereon. The different kinds of tokens, which are sent into the token carrying path 4, can be rejected into the reject-storage 6 by an optical sensor of CCD line sensor or the like and a reject arm. Also, the counting sensor 7 is arranged in the vicinity of the token carrying path 4 and counts the number of passing tokens M including the different kinds of tokens.
