Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve tool life, by coating the surface of the base material of a tool with the carbides, nitrides, and borides of specific elements, aluminum oxide, carbon, etc., to a specific thickness.

CONSTITUTION: The surface of the base material of a tool to be in contact with copper or copper alloy as a material to be worked is coated with any of the carbides, nitrides, borides, carbonitrides, carbon borides, nitrogen borides, carbon oxides, and oxynitrides of group IVa, Va, and VIa elements, aluminum oxide, aluminum oxynitride, i-carbon, diamond, and CBN to 0.5W20μm thickness. The coating is formed by CVD, PVD, thermal spraying, etc. Since this coating has inferior affinity for Cu and has high hardness, it can improve the working quality of the material to be worked.
