PURPOSE: To increase the service life of whole gear cutting blades by forming two or three or more gear cutting blades having gradually decreasing radial dimensions in the direction of gear cutting so that the front gear cutting blade which has the smallest dimensions first comes into contact with a gear to be cut.
CONSTITUTION: A front gear cutting blade 9 is actually used in order to cut a work to be cut into a rough shape. In this case, the first gear cutting blade 9 makes a relatively deep gear cut, and a next gear cutting blade 7 makes a relatively light gear cut. Then, a last gear cutting blade 5 which acts as a finishing gear cutting blade and which comes into contact with the work to be cut while determining the final dimensions of the gear to be cut, also makes a relatively light gear cut. Thus, the gear cutting blades 5, 7, 9 are subjected to only light loads, and as a result the service life of the gear cutting blades 5, 7, 9 can be increased.
