To provide a tool for friction stir joining by which flashes occurring on friction stir joining can effectively be removed without depending on the shape of a joining member, and, without deteriorating the quality of the appearance in a product.
The tool 10 for friction stir joining is provided with a cylindrical rotator 12, and a probe 14 with a conical shape in the tip arranged at the tip part 16 of the rotator 12 so that the rotary axis of the rotator 12 and the center thereof are made coincident, and having a diameter smaller than that of the rotator 12. Four grooves 20a to 20d are formed almost at equal intervals on the side of the tip part 16 of the rotator 12. Each groove part 20a to 20d is provided with each tip opening part 22a to 22d opening to the tip face 21 of the rotator 12, and each outer circumferential opening part 24a to 24d opening to the outer circumferential part 18 of the rotator 12. The tip opening parts 22a to 22d respectively communicate with the outer circumferential parts 24a to 24d in the inside of the rotator 12.
