To provide a tooth contact extraction method and device capable of precisely detecting a tooth contact surface by use of red lead.
This method comprises taking an image of a tooth contact tooth surface coated with red lead by an imaging device, converting each of R/G/B components of the taken RGB color image to a gray scale image by an image processor followed by adding the luminances of the components G and B, and removing, on the basis of a histogram, a gray scale image obtained by adding the luminance of a reverse image with reversed density of the gray scale image to the luminance of the component R except the tooth contact surface to form a binarized image. This device comprises the imaging device for taking the image of the tooth contact surface; and the image processor for converting the R/G/B components to the gray scale image followed by adding the luminances of the components G and B, and removing, on the basis of the histogram, the gray scale image obtained by adding the reversed luminance of the gray scale image to the luminance of the component R except the tooth contact surface to form the binarized image.
