TOOTH SURFACE TREATING AGENT FOR DENTAL GLASS IONOMER CEMENT

PURPOSE: To provide a tooth surface treating agent for dental glass ionomer cement, composed of an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid polymer having a specific property, a compound containing a specific element and water and effective for increasing and stabilizing the adhesive force to the dentine.
CONSTITUTION: This treating agent contains 1-80 pts.wt. of an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid polymer (e.g. polyacrylic acid) having a weight-average molecular weight of 1,000-40,000, 0.01-30 pts.wt. of a compound containing one or more kinds of elements selected from aluminum, iron, tin and calcium (e.g. aluminum oxalate) and 20-100 pts.wt. of water as active components. The agent is further incorporated with 0.0001-5 pts.wt. of a food color and 0.1-30 pts.wt. of a thickener. The agent for the treatment of tooth surface is applied in the case of using a dental glass ionomer cement and is effective for dissolving and removing a smear layer remarkably inhibiting the adhesion of a dental material. It is also effective for increasing and stabilizing the adhesive force between the glass ionomer cement and the dentine. It is milder than phosphoric acid, leaves the smear plug in the pores and suppresses the stimulation and injury of dental pulp.
