To provide a top coat film formation method for providing a coat film with good luster and brightness, excellent in impact processibility such as chipping resistance, and scarcely causing a layer mixing of a base coat and a top coat.
The top coat film formation method involves steps of forming a colored base coat on an object to be coated and, without curing the base coat, forming a clear top coat on the base coat, and simultaneously heating and curing the resulting two layers of the uncured coats. The colored base coat is formed from a thermosetting water-based coating composition (A) containing (a) a water-soluble and/or a water-dispersible polyol resin and (b) an active methylene-based block polyisocyanate compound as indispensable components.
