The top plate for cooking appliances, which is to be disposed over a cooking appliance, is characterized by comprising a glass base; an interference layer which has been disposed on one side of the glass base and comprises silicon nitride or aluminum nitride; a light-shielding layer which has been disposed on the interference layer and comprises titanium or niobium; and a protective layer which has been disposed on the light-shielding layer and comprises at least one member selected among silicon nitride, zirconium nitride, titanium nitride, tantalum nitride, tungsten nitride, and niobium nitride. It is further characterized in that the interference layer and the protective layer each is a thin film formed by the physical vapor deposition method in a gas atmosphere having an N2 gas content of 90 to 100 vol%.
