Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-life toroidal continuously variable transmission with long-life reliable structural members, capable of preventing itself from cracking due to fatigue.
SOLUTION: Such carbonitriding heat treatment is given that a surface hardness is satisfied with a Vickers hardness Hv720 or more and a hardness at a depth Dx from the surface is satisfied with Hv650 or more after raw material for a power roller bearing and input/output discs composed of C; 0.15-0.5%, Si; 0.15-1.5% and Mo; 0.1-1.5% and containing oxygen 9 ppm or less is carbonitrided, quenched, annealed, polished and finished. Physical surface hardening treatment is given so that Dx can be satisfied with 3.0Zo-5.0Zo and residual stress value at 0.5-1.0Dx position can be satisfied with -130 to -60 kgf/mm2, where Dx means a critical equivalent stress generation position in composite stress distribution and Zo means a dynamic maximum shearing stress generation position.
