To provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission for maintaining its sufficient durability by avoiding stress concentration on an inside center hole portion of an input side disc while meeting requirements for a high load and a wide range and for maintaining its sufficient function as a continuously variable transmission by effectively and reliably keeping a ball of a ball spline on its tilting surface.
The toroidal type continuously variable transmission comprises an input shaft 1 to which rotating force is inputted, an input side disc 2 spline- joined to the input shaft 1 for integral rotation with the input shaft 1, and an output side disc 3 to which the rotating force of the input side disc 2 is transmitted via a power roller 11, wherein a counterbore 50 is provided in a center hole of the input side disc 2, through which the input shaft 2 passes, at its inner periphery face on a side opposite to the output side disc 3 and a blocking member 52 is arranged in a portion of the counterbore 50 for blocking the counterbore.
