In a toroidal type continuously variable transmission, freely swingable trunnion assemblies 150, 160, 250 and 260 are sandwiched between input disks 110, 210 and output disks 120, 220. The trunnion assemblies 150, 160 are composed of power rollers 153, 163 sandwiched by the input disk and the output disk, and trunnion members 151, 161 freely rotatably supporting the power rollers. Trunnion shafts 152, 162 on both ends, which make support members 30, 40 support the trunnion members so as to be freely swingable, are semi-cylindrically divided into two, and freely rotatably supported by the support members through bearings 155, 165 provided to the outer periphery. By using roller members 152c, 162c provided between the surfaces divided into two, the trunnion members are made movable in the axial direction with respect to the support members.
