To provide a torque converter apparatus that is compact despite having a lockup clutch and a lockup damper having a plurality of radially spaced springs.
The torque converter apparatus 20 includes the lockup clutch 3 and the lockup damper 4. The lockup damper 4 includes the plurality of springs 4a and 4b arranged in stages spaced radially of a torque converter 2. The lockup clutch 3 includes an outer hub 3a extending toward the lockup damper 4 while supporting one friction engagement element 3c out of a pair of friction engagement elements 3c and 3d capable of engagement, and an inner hub 3b extending toward an engine (front cover 6) while supporting the other friction engagement element 3d. The outer hub 3a extends toward a space (recess of drive plate 4c) 4e formed radially between the plurality of springs 4a and 4b.
